Heli skiing in Manali is emerging as one of the most expensive adventure activities. Heli-skiing is off-trail, downhill skiing or snowboarding reached by helicopter, instead of a ski lift. In the late 1950s, helicopters were used in Alaska and Europe to access remote terrain and later in 1965, it was commercialized by Canada by combining lodging, transport and guiding. One can learn skiing courses in Manali from the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports Manali (ABVIMAS). Every year ABVIMAS conducts skiing courses in Manali. They have a skiing center at Solang Valley near skiing slopes. This is a Government Institute so costs of skiing and other activities are also fixed. These skiing courses are conducted every year depending upon the availability of snow. Some private tour agent also organizes skiing packages but their cost of skiing is not fixed.

The first thing which is required is knowledge of skiing. One should be a perfect skier then only he/she will be able to enjoy this adventure activity.   2. Good information on heli-skiing in Manali. Heli skiing is available in a few places in India. If government supports, there is huge potential of heli skiing adventure activities in many more areas in Himachal, Ladakh, J&K and Uttarakhand besides some north east states like Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.
