Rohtang Pass

Solang Valley is one of the main attractions of Manali. Solang Valley is also known as “Adventure Hub” of Manali. When Rohtang Pass is closed in winters, that time Solang Valley is the main attraction of tourists. Solang Valley has fine ski slopes that produce ski champions for India. The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports Manali (ABVIMAS) has also installed a ski lift for training purposes. During summer and winter, various adventure courses are operated from this Institute. Paragliding and Ropeway are the most preferred adventure activities in Solang Valley.

Distance from Manali to Solang Valley is around 15 km. This distance from Manali to Solang Valley is covered in around 30 minutes in normal traffic. But during peak season there is heavy traffic in this route. There is double lane road for Solang Valley which is under Border Road Organization (BRO). The road is under construction at some points and little congested near Palchan Village.

Weather of Solang Valley is pleasant during summers but in winter temperature goes in minus degree. But still, Solang Valley is worth visiting during the whole year. During winter snow-related activities are the main attraction of the valley and in summer the pleasant environment.

There are many major tourist places near Solang Valley which are as under:
  •  Rohtang Tunnel is just 8 km away from Solang Valley. This tunnel is under construction and will be in operation from this year May 2020. Rohtang Tunnel is an 8.8 km long tunnel and will be one of the longest road tunnels in India. Rohtang Pass receives heavy snowfall during winter months and is open for road traffic for only six months in a year. This tunnel will keep the highway open during winter.   • Anjani Mahadev Temple is a holy temple dedicated to Devi Anjana (Mother of Lord Hanuman) in Manali. The main attraction of Anjani Mahadev Temple is ice Lingam formed by flowing water from the mountain. It is said that Devi Anjana meditated at this place. So the place is called Anjani Mahadev. During winters when temperature decreases and the water flowing from the mountains fall at a particular point and at the same time due to minus temperature, water freezes and formed a Lingam shape. Some time Lingam attains height up to 20 to 30 feet. The formation of Lingam is the same as it is in Amarnath. So it is also called Amarnath of Kullu or Chota Amarnath.
  • Kothi Village is the last village of Kullu District on the way to Rohtang Pass. Kothi Village is just 2 km away from Manali on the way to Rohtang Pass. This village is at 2500 m from sea level. Kothi Village is emerging as the perfect place for camping and even a short route by foot to Rohtang Pass starts from this village. This village offers a magnificent view of Manali.
  • Rohtang Pass connects the Kullu Valley and the Lahaul and Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh. On the other hand geographically Rohtang Pass divides Kullu Valley with Hindu culture and Lahaul Spiti into Buddhist culture. Rohtang Pass is just 35 km away from Solang Valley.   • Nehru Kund is around 6 km away from Manali on the way to Solang Valley. Nehru Kund is a natural spring which is named after the first Prime Minister of India Late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru loved visiting this place and drinking the crystal clear water from the spring. The source of this spring is Bhrigu Lake which is at 4300 m (14100 ft).
  • Solang Ropeway and ski center is one of the major tourist attractions in Solang Valley. This Ropeway takes you to 1 km uphill from Solang Valley from where you can view the breathtaking view of the valley. On the other end of Ropeway, there is a restaurant where you can enjoy some food and snacks and enjoy the nature. The cost of the Ropeway is Rs.650/- per person.Solang Valley Manali

Things to do in Solang Valley:
  • Paragliding is one of the most famous adventure activities of Solang Valley. Hundreds of adventure lovers enjoy paragliding in Solang Valley. You can see colorful gliders daily flying in blue sky of Solang Valley. In Solang Valley, you can enjoy both short and high fly.   • Snow scooter is a small open powered vehicle mounted on skis for traveling on snow. These snow scooters come in action during winters when it’s difficult for normal vehicles. One can enjoy snow scooter ride during winters in ski slopes of Solang Valley. Rates of snow scooter ride are not fixed.
  • ATV Mountain biking is also a popular means of transport in Solang Valley. ATV means All –Terrain – Vehicles. These mountain bikes are mostly preferred for Anjani Mahadev Temple trek. And also when roads are closed due to heavy snowfall, these mountain bikes play a significant role in moving tourists from one place to another in Solang Valley.
  • Zorbing is rolling downhill inside an orb which is generally made up of transparent plastic. Zorbing is also performed on the slopes of Solang Valley. In both summer and winter season you can enjoy zorbing ball activities in Solang Valley.
  • Skiing is also one of the most preferred snow activities. Solang Valley is also known for its ski slopes and produces lots of ski champions every year.   • Snowboarding is another snow-related activity which is mostly done is slopes of Solang Valley. Apart from skiing, snowboarding is also getting popularity these days. There are lots of private organizers available at Solang Valley who organized snowboarding lessons and camps.
  • Gondola ride add charm to the Solang Valley. This is around 1 km ride which starts from Solang Valley ground and takes you uphill to Fatru. The cost of the Gondola ride is around Rs650/- per person.
  • Camping is Solang Valley is not less than any adventure. Normally temperature of Solang Valley is very low throughout the year. So camping is done in the summer season only as during winters Solang Valley receive heavy snowfall. Camping is Solang Valley is the first choice of bag packers.  
  • Zipline in Solang Valley is available at Anjani Mahadev Temple. A zip-line consists of a pulley suspended on a cable, usually made of stainless steel, mounted on a slope. Zipline is a type of leisure sports activity in which the person zooms from one side of the wire that is firmly fixed on the poles or trees to the other using trolleys mounted on the wire. Another name of the zipline is flying fox.
  • Horse and yak ride are some of the very cheap activities at Solang Valley. Yak is a large domesticated wild ox with shaggy hair, humped shoulders and large horns which are commonly used in the Spiti region of Himachal Pradesh. You can take short horse and yak ride in just Rs.100/- also.
  • Tube ride and sledging are very popular activities to do in Solang Valley. Both sledging and tube ride is done is snow slopes of Solang Valley. These are budget-friendly adventure activities of Solang Valley. One can enjoy these rides in just Rs.100/-.
Manali to Solang Valley taxi fare varies according to season and crowd. During off-season or winters taxi fare for Solang Valley is very reasonable. But during summer the season which is the peak season of Manali taxi for Solang Valley cost almost double as compare to offseason.

  2. It is a sort of adventure spot near Manali, where we all enjoying different sports or adventure activities. Here one can do para - gliding, Remarkably beautiful place. Best situation to visit: after being stressed out. Best time to visit is from November to February if you want to slip on the snow. manali tour packages
