HPTDC - The Castle, Naggar

The Castle was converted into a rest house, a hundred years back and in 1978 this ancient building was handed over to HPTDC to run as a heritage hotel. This medieval castle was built by Raja Sidh Singh of Kullu around 1460 A.D. The hotel overlooks the Kullu Valley and apart from the spectacular view and superb location, this has a flavor of authentic western Himalayan architecture. Here, a gallery houses the paintings of the Russian artist Nicholas Roerich. Naggar also has three other old shrines. Hotel Castle is a unique medieval stone and wood mansion, once the home to the Raja of Kullu and now an HPTDC Heritage hotel.

HPTDC - Tourist Inn, Rewalsar

Built on a slight rise, with a commanding view of both the lake and the valley below, Himachal Tourism runs Tourist Inn at Rewalsar. Its presence enables every visitor to truly savor the beauty and ambiance of this enchanting spot. Distance between Manali to Rewalsar is around 130 km and it takes 4 and a half hours to complete the journey in normal conditions.

It is located on a mountain spur, and an hour`s drive from Mandi to reach this dark jewel-like lake. With water, woodland, and high hills, it presents a variety of natural beauty. The spot is sacred for Hindus, Buddhists, and Sikhs. Known to the Tibetans as Guru Rimpoche, the Precious Master, it was under Padmasambahava`s influence that Mahayana Buddhism spread over Tibet.

There are islands of floating reed on Rewalsar lake and the spirit of Padmasambhava is said to reside in them. It is here that the sage Lomas did penance in devotion to Lord Shiva, and the Sikh Guru Gobind Singh also resided here for one month.

Statue of Padmasambhava:

This enormous, 12m-high statue of Padmasambhava, with his trademark fiercely staring eyes, wisps of mustache and beard and right hand in the warding-off-evil mudra (gesture), is a renowned landmark of Rewalsar.

Padmasambhava Cave:

High above Rewalsar Lake on the ridge, Padmasambhava is believed to be meditated here. One can get there on foot (about 1.5 KM uphill, taking about one hour, starting up the steps behind the big Padmasambhava statue) or by taxi or on one of the buses departing from Rewalsar bus stand

Guru Gobind Singh Gurudwara:

Built-in 1930’s on the northeast side of the lake, it is the gold-domed Guru Gobind Singh Gurdwara, a Sikh temple which is visited by large numbers of devotees.

Mini Zoo:

The forest department maintains a small zoo at Rewalsar. Above Rewalsar, the ‘Seven Lakes’ are also of interest.

Hindu Temples:

On the west side of the lake is a group of smallish Hindu temples dedicated to Krishna, Lakshmi, Shiva, and the sage Rishi Lomas.

HPTDC offers various discounts/ packages from time to time. Different rates of discounts are applicable on different properties during different periods. Please check these Special Offers on the official website of HPTDC. Similarly, discounts are allowed to senior citizens and privileged cardholders. The discount will be allowed to such customers at the time of settlement of the final bill. Proof of senior citizen/ privilege cardholder will have to be shown at the time of check-in.
